picture says a lot more than words they say; sometimes, words add a little flavour to the whole picture though. Therefore, we have tried to describe the amazing feeling of meeting Eritrean youth that lives in different parts of the world.
The amazing feeling of open and fruitful discussions, great and creative presentations, interesting conversations, role models that keep you tip – toeing for more knowledge, Eritrean songs and shkitisism… These conferences are truly a lifetime experience. Comrades in Germany, Sweden and now UK, well done!

Our quest for a viable and sustainable country starts in our respective Eritrean communities where we live. Now let’s use this knowledge, experience, and strong networks that are built, from where we are everyday. Our unity is our strength! See you all next year!
Smret Kidane (Oslo, Norway)

14 Eritrean youths participated from Norway, one of us lives in Stavanger…
“I would just like to say that it was fantastic to see youth from all over the world working together for one cause; to make Eritrea a sustainable and viable country. Being from a city with few Eritrean youth it has at some points been difficult to maintain that "special" feeling of being an Eritrean. However, being part of the YPFDJ conference gave me that "special" feeling back!”
Yonatan Haile (Stavanger, Norway)

“It was my first time this year to participate in this annual conference, and I have to say I was surprised. Even though I know how proud we are of our motherland, I still got a little surprised when I saw so much pride and political commitment among people that are so young. We’re not that many here in Norway so it’s not a lot of young people that are political committed to our nation; it’s usually around the grownup people that we see so much commitment. So when I got there I was really feeling the spirit!

The conference wasn’t only educational it was also very funny! I must say that Yemane Ghebreab knows how to lecture a youth group! Being 17 years old, I enjoyed it very much, even though the language can be a little difficult sometimes. In addition to that we got to know Eritrean youth from all over the world, which is very exciting! It was my first time and it won’t be my last time, I highly recommend this to all Eritrean youth! Next year the conference is in Holland ;)”
Fethawit G.Ghebrekidan (Oslo, Norway)

“I don’t know how to start or even how to express my feelings of the time I spent the last weekend. It was full of joy, knowledge, friendship, and last but not least Eritreanism. The willingness to learn, to do something or reflect on each word was felt in the air.

It was delightful to see so many young Eritreans with high education and potential. It was amazing to see them engaged on issues related to Eritrean youth and willing to accomplish something tangible. They are beautiful in mind and appearance. Sometimes I didn’t want to sleep, just to not miss a wonderful occasion.

What can I say about Yemane and Zemhret; I could listen to them 24 hours and still be awake. They are just great. I’m glad to have them as our leaders.”
Samson Yared (Oslo, Norway)

“First of all, I’d like to show my appreciation by saying ‘Thank you’ for inviting me along to such an inspirational event. It’s been great meeting like – minded people from all over the world, and seeing their respective achievements.

My experiences at Osmington Bay have been enlightening and informative. I’m proud to be a part of the Norwegian group and to see the projects and work that has taken place and that are in progress for 2007.”
Makda Teclemariam (Oslo / London)

“I am not a member of YPFDJ and have not been politically active, but I joined the conference to see how it is and to learn more. The result is that I enjoyed it very much. It was different than from what I had expected.
I loved the way that there was a mix of entertainment during the conference and also more serious subjects about our country and how to build a good future. Another thing that I appreciated to see was that everybody was included in the programme no matter how well or bad their Tigrinya skills were. Thumbs up to Italy!

I learned a lot about YPFDJ, how they work and think. It was also nice to meet other fellow Eritreans from all around the world.”
Jodith Alem (Oslo, Norway)
